Getting Started with Online Video Poker
Video Poker is a mix of Stud Poker and slot machines that bring fast moving and high paying video poker to the casinos. The goal of the game is just like regular poker, to get the very best hand possible. All versions of the game use the same ranking of hands, so your sure to catch on fast.
The good news is that whether you're playing for real or for free, the rules of the game remain the same.
Online Video Poker Rules
The rules of Video Poker are really easy to learn, and should take no time at all to pick up even if you're a beginner. It's just like playing regular poker, which most adults have played at some point or another in their lives. Here are the basic rules of Video Poker.
- Players can insert/bet normally between $.025 and $5 per hand
- Then press the 'Deal' or 'Draw' button to get your cards
- After examining your hand, decide which ones you wish to keep (the ones that give you the best hand) and then press the 'Hold' button to ensure those cards are kept and not discarded.
- Press the Deal/Draw button again to get additional cards.
Video Poker Hand Rankings
- Jacks or Better: When playing Video Poker, a pair will only count if it's Jacks or higher. Any pairs lower than Jacks is not considered a winning hand.
- Kings or Better: When playing Kings or Higher, only Kings and Aces would be considered a winning pair, anything lower does not count.
- Two Pair: This is when you have two seperate sets of pairs having the same card value.
- Three of a Kind: 3 cards having the same value.
- Four of a Kind: 4 cards having the same value.
- Five of a Kind: When you get 4 cards of the same value, as well as a Wild Card.
- Straight: 5 consecutive cards going by card value, but not of the same suit. For instance, having three through seven would be a straight.
- Flush: 5 non-consecutive cards having the same suit.
- Straight Flush: 5 consecutive cards, all having the same suit. Using the same example from above, if that straight of three through seven was all hearts or another suit.
- Royal Flush: This is the highest hand you can get, and includes 5 consecutive cards all having the same suit, but the straight starts with a ten and the last card being is an Ace.
