PokerStars Finds Chinese Poker Gang & $587,000
We have all heard about poker "bots" at online poker sites, which are not real players and are there to take your cash, well now we have "gangs" infiltrating the biggest poker site online, pokerstars. A Chinese poker gang has been caught with taking over $587,000 from poker players around the world who play at pokerstars.
This "gang" of poker players would collude together and play at the "Double or Nothing" Sit and Go Tournaments at PokerStars and share hand information making it possible to con their victims out of the cash. The Chinese gang is said to be from Hangzhou China and would play in the $52 and higher tables with more than half the seats at these tables occupied by members of their gang.
The way this group finally got caught was because regular players at PokerStars started noticing suspicious activity when 5 or 6 Chinese players would sit together at the same table time after time. With many emails sent to PokerStars management, finally, an investigation was ordered and not long after a freeze on these players, accounts were ordered. In a funny turn of events a player named Jane0123 who is a member of an online poker forum, started complaining that their account at pokerstars was frozen with over $10K in it, and another member of the forum answered them with a little surprise, "Ya Finally got busted huh? It's about time, I sent over 25 emails complaining about you clowns"!
This Chinese gang of players were added up the big cash amounts for quite awhile with some earning over $96,000 at one time and another for over $56K. PokerStars stated that over 4000 players were affected by this cheating scam ring, and they have agreed to compensate these players for their losses with a compensation pool totaling $2 million.
