Add Israel to the List of Countries Banning Online Gambling Casino Sites
It seems that one country after another is ordering ISPs to block internet-gambling sites in their country. Starting with Australia last year and moving on to include Russia, China, N Korea, France and now Israel each one of these countries governments have in some way or another bullied or harassed ISPs to police gaming websites.
Police in Israel have sited "section 224 of the Penal Code" as their governing law, which states, "gambling is illegal in Israel". Israeli police have instructed these ISPs that they have 48 hours to comply and get these site blocked. However, on the other side of the fence, the ISPs have said that the police have no foundation or legal authority to demand this ban. The next few days will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
Numerous countries have now joined in the online gambling war of to ban or not to ban, which is a very gray area because most are making up laws as they go. Until the past few years, online gambling was not an issue so governments were not concerned about incorporating laws banning it, but as online gambling grows, worldwide many countries opposed to it are now coming up with "new laws" to stop their citizens from enjoying gambling from home.
France just last week passed a law declaring online gambling illegal in their country and will insist ISPs ban or block any such site from the internet. Whether these bans will continue or will include all forms of gambling online is yet to be seen. Take the United States for instance, online gambling and its definitions is a murky subject when it comes to the governing laws.
